Safety & Parent Notification

The safety and security of Triad Community School District students and staff are of utmost importance. The District has a comprehensive crisis plan and district administrators coordinate closely with city emergency management officials and law enforcement representatives to monitor and update plans on a regular basis.

In addition, schools have well-established security measures to ensure the wellbeing of students and staff. These include: visitor check-in procedures, locked doors after the start of the school day, surveillance cameras, and school resource officer support.

How can I as a parent or guardian be assured I receive the most up-to-date information from my child’s school?
To ensure every parent has the most accurate contact information in an emergency situation, parents must keep contact information up-to-date in the school building's student management system.  This information is gathered and confirmed each year during the registration process. If your phone number or address has changed, please contact the school secretary and feel free to contact the school office to confirm the information we are maintaining in our contact database.

How does the District communicate with parents and guardians in emergency situations?
The District contracts with Apptegy for its parent notification system, which enables the District to send bulk emails, automated phone calls and text messages to parents and guardians. The District only uses text messaging in limited circumstances such as emergency situations, school closures/delays, and bus accidents/delays.  In addition to direct communications, parents can also download our school app to any Android or Apple mobile device and accept to receive push notifications directly from the district and any attendance center.

How can I download the District App?
Launch the app store (Google Play or Apple App Store) on your mobile device and search for "Triad CUSD #2". Select yes to receive push notifications and select the attendance center for your children.

When and how will I be notified if there is an emergency at my child’s school?
The means and immediacy of communication will depend on the scope of the event and on the potential or actual impact on the safety of the students. While it is difficult to describe all possible scenarios,  parents should look for information to be displayed in the following methods.

  • A message will be placed on the school’s homepage of their website

  • An email and/or phone call/text message will be distributed

  • A "Push" notification will be sent to mobile devices with the District App installed

  • If appropriate, a message will be placed on the District Facebook [www.facebook.com/TCUSD2] and Twitter [www.twitter.com/triadnews or follow @triadnews] pages

Once the situation has concluded, the website and social media sites will be updated and an email or letter will be sent to parents.

How does the District communicate with parents and guardians regarding inclement weather and school closing
From time to time, inclement weather conditions or equipment malfunctions can interfere with the school schedule.  It is not unusual for Triad schools to close due to inclement weather based on the fact that the majority of our students are transported on buses.  Even smaller amounts of snow, when combined with high winds, pose real problems in terms of drifting in the rural areas of Marine, St. Jacob, and Troy.  Cold temperatures alone typically don’t necessitate the need to cancel school unless the temperature combined with negative wind chills or hazardous road conditions make it too unsafe to transport the students by bus.

Student safety is the district’s number one priority.  It is not always easy to predict how the weather will impact the road conditions and parking lots in our area.  Area superintendents work together when determining school closures; however, the weather does not always affect all surrounding communities the same way.  Parents can expect information regarding the closing of school or an early dismissal to be released to the following:

  • Parent Notification System (voice message, email, and text messaging)

  • News Media - FOX 2, KMOV 4, and KSDK 5

  • District Website - www.triadunit2.org

  • District Social Media Accounts [www.facebook.com/TCUSD2] or [www.twitter.com/triadnews or follow @triadnews]

How You Can Help
If you learn of a situation at school through student text messages/phone calls or media reports, please check the District/school website for information regarding the situation. The District does not post any information until it has been fact checked and verified.

Please check the District/school website and/or social sites for information instead of calling. It is important that phone lines remain available for school personnel to stay in contact with law enforcement, first and the District’s response team.

Remain close to your sources of communication, whether phone or email, to ensure you are receiving accurate and timely updates from the District.

Please do not drive to school as this will only increase safety concerns for yourself and disrupt our safety protocols for students. In addition, if the building is in “secure mode,” parents will not be able to enter the building and students will not be allowed to leave.
